The Fulbright Scholar Program is administered by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the United States Department of State. About 1,200 US scholars receive awards each year. College and university faculty and administrators, as well as professionals, artists, journalists, scientists, lawyers, independent scholars, and others, are eligible.

Fulbright Faculty Advisor
Dr. Denita Hadziabdic Guerry is an Associate Professor and Fulbright Faculty Advisor. A former Fulbright Scholar to Ghana (2018–2019) and Fulbright U.S. Scholar Alumni Ambassador (2022–2024). Dr. Hadziabdic’s research explores the population genetics of fungal plant pathogens, forest health, and the conservation of native plant diversity. Her work also contributes to hunger eradication efforts in Africa by protecting the biodiversity of indigenous, climate-resilient crops while advancing food security, science literacy, and the next generation of science leaders.

Dr. Danielle Walters is an alumna of UTK, where she earned a master’s degree in French Literature, going on to complete her Ph.D. in Romance Languages from the University of Georgia. Her academic journey includes significant international exposure, including an M.A. exchange program in Lille, France, and study abroad programs in France, Italy, Turkey, Austria, Costa Rica, and Belize.
