5:30–6:30pm: College Conversations Spotlight on Diversity AAPI Heritage

Virtual via Zoom (registration required): May is Asian-American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. In this, the final College Conversations Spotlight on Diversity for the spring 2022 semester, learn about the work faculty and staff in the UT Department of Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures are doing to highlight Asian-American and Pacific Islander heritage and experiences. Registration in advance is required.

Friday, April 29

5:00pm: Karaoke Night hosted by the Chinese Culture Club

International House, Great Room 101: This event will showcase students performing their own chosen songs in front of an audience. There will be free food provided for all who attend. It’s open to all UT faculty, staff, and students. For the karaoke portion of the event, there will be a panel of judges as well as audience members who will give scores to contestants to determine the top 3 singers, both native and non-native Chinese speakers. The top 3 winners for each category will receive the following Amazon gift cards: 1st: $75, 2nd: $50, 3rd: $25. No registration required.

Wednesday, May 4

1:00–3:00pm: International Coffeehouse—Korea

Hodges Library, Mary E. Greer Room: Stop by next Wednesday for a Coffeehouse showcasing Korea! We will be serving barley tea and an assortment of Korean snacks. No registration necessary.

7:00pm: International Dance Competition

Student Union, Auditorium Room 180: The 2022 International Dance Competition is an annual opportunity—hosted by the International House—for students and faculty from around the globe to display their dance skills and share a piece of their culture with their extended UT family. No registration necessary, and free t-shirts will be given to the first 200 guests!

2:00pm: AAPI Ad Hoc Committee Meeting

Hybrid Event; Student Union, Room 360 (and Zoom): The AAPI Ad Hoc Committee (soon to be Commission for AAPI) is hosting the last meeting for the spring 2022 semester. If you are interested in joining the committee but have not had a chance to express your interest, we are still looking for new members. We encourage you to attend the May 10 meeting. Membership on the committee and attendance at the meeting is open to all who are willing to support the AAPI community. If you have not done so already, fill out on the online interest form to attend the meeting or receive future meeting and events notifications.
