PC Prep applicants are required to choose a US Peace Corps Sector in which to focus their technical skills. Once accepted into the program, students will complete the following competencies:

• Training and Experience in a Specific Work Sector: Three courses (minimum 9 credits) in your selected US Peace Corps Sector. At least 50 hours of hands-on experience in that same sector.
• Foreign Language Skills: Requirements depend upon desired Peace Corps volunteer placement site. (1) Latin America two 200-level courses. (2) French-speaking countries in West Africa one 200-level course in French or another Romance Language. (3) Everywhere else no explicit requirements, however, you are strongly encouraged to study a foreign language at least to an intermediate (200-level) proficiency.
• Intercultural Competence: Take at least one of the two core courses AGNR 180 Global Dynamics: Food, Biodiversity and the Environment or GLBS/SOCI 250 Introduction to Global Studies. You then need to take 2 additional electives from the approved list in the UT PC Prep Student Guide. Study abroad courses in countries who have hosted Peace Corps Volunteers are strongly encouraged.
• Professional and Leadership Development: Have your resume critiqued by a Career Consultant in the UT Center for Career Development. Attend a workshop or class on interview skills at UT Center for Career Development. Develop at least one significant leadership experience and be prepared to discuss it thoughtfully. For example, organizing a campus event, leading a work or volunteer project, or serving on the executive board of a student organization.
