“Harvesting Hope” in Nablus, Palestine by Conny Zhao

The piece you are looking at titled “Harvesting Hope” was taken by UT Alumna Conny Zhao during her trip to Palestine in 2018. According to the artist, “Olives are embedded into Palestinian Culture: olive oil is found in almost every dish, the harvest is celebrated as a holiday, and trees are even passed down from as precious family heirlooms. Harvesting Hope explores how Palestinian women perform acts of resistance simply through existing and living in their homeland and through sustaining ancient traditions such as the annual October olive harvest.”
